Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh
MLA in Punjab Legislative Assembly (16th Vidhan Sabha: 2022-2027),
from Amritsar North Constituency.
Served as an IPS officer of Punjab Cadre of 1998 batch. He resigned from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in April 2021. He had still nine years of service left, when he resigned.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is an MLA in Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar North Constituency since 2022. He belongs to 1998 batch of IPS of Punjab cadre. He served as a police officer in the state of Punjab since 1998 to 2021 in various capacities in almost every region and area in the state; before he resigned from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in April 2021. He had still nine years of service left, when he resigned. He has also joined the profession of Law as an advocate, doing legal consultancy. He has been an elected Executive Member of Amritsar District Court Bar Association (2023-2024) with all-time record votes. On academic side, he also delivers motivational lectures on vast topics in various education institutions and universities. He has actively been associated with Rotary Clubs, Pingalwara, and various other social and religious institutions in Amritsar and other areas of Punjab. 

He is a “Politician with a difference” and   has continuously been working for bringing “total political transformation” with a mission to bring back the glory of Punjab and for nation building in true sense. As an MLA, he is very accessible to the common people and proactively engages with the public at various forums. He has raised the “voice of the people of Amritsar” in Punjab Vidhan Sabha on various people-centric issues ranging from Education, Health, sanitation to industry, agriculture and public safety. He prominently raised the issue of Amritsar Circuit House, Children Park of Company Bagh, cleaning of Tung-Dhab drain, clean water for drinking, renovation and updating of sewerage and sanitation facilities in the holy city.

He strongly advocated in Punjab Vidhan Sabha for upgrading the academic and overall standards of Guru Nanak Dev University, Government Medical College, Sarup Rani Government College for Women, PIMS Jalandhar. He has also expressed his vision and need for reforms in agriculture and industry sectors in Punjab Vidhan Sabha. As an MLA of Amritsar North Constituency, he has achieved 90 percent of his target despite facing odds of politics.

Important Positions held as a police officer:
He started his career as ASP from the holy City of Amritsar in 1999 and has distinction to serve in Amritsar in every capacity i.e. SP City, SSP Amritsar and DIG Border Range.

·       He has also served as Police Commissioner of Jalandhar and Ludhiana Cities.

·       He has also distinctly worked as DIG of Ludhiana Range and Jalandhar Range.

·       He also served as SSP of Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and SP Mohali.

·       IG STF Punjab: In this capacity, he remarkably controlled the menace of gangsters in Punjab. He has been credited to stern action against gangsters during the Assembly Elections of 2017 to ensure gangster-free Assembly Elections in the backdrop of Nabha Jail Break.

·       He has been spearheading the investigation of Kotkapura & Behbal Kalan firing cases originated from the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

  • Award of Vocational Excellence by Rotary Club Amritsar in 2007 for bringing reforms in policing
  • IVF Award 2006 by India  Vision Foundation (A trust founded by Dr Kiran Bedi) for Prison Reforms
