Early days of policing (Assistant Superintendent of Police)

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh started his career in the premier Indian Police Service (IPS) in September 1998 when he joined Foundation Course training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Mussoorie. After that he completed intensive police training at the National Police Academy Hyderabad. In the 10 months training at Hyderabad, the officer has distinction to attend each and every class and did not miss even a single activity there. Thereafter this Punjab Cadre officer went to Punjab Police Academy Phillaur to learn basic policing of Punjab in general and local acts and rules in particular including Punjab Police Rules.

The officer landed in Amritsar in December 1999 as Assistant Superintendent of Police where he learnt fundamental policing practices, besides rich heritage, culture and traditions of Punjab. He was lucky to get Amritsar, as this is treated as a cultural and religious capital of Punjab mainly because of Holy Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir, Jalianwala Bagh and Wagha border. The officer later on became SP City (2002-03) and went ahead to head this internationally renowned holy city as Senior Superintendent of Police (2007-2009).

The historical city of Ferozepur was his next destination as Assistant Superintendent of Police. In a very short span, he became popular amongst the rural masses because of his community oriented endeavors and people friendly attitude. Ferozepur is one of the biggest and important districts of Punjab which provided an ideal atmosphere to learn basic problems of people in Punjab especially related with policing.

Before his elevation as SP City of Amritsar in 2002, the officer remained posted as ASP in Patiala (2001) and Ludhiana (2001-02) districts which helped him to acclimatize with the ground reality and basic policing needs in Punjab.

The officer excelled in policing since his early days of postings as ASP. At the same time, he remained in touch with the cultural heritage of Punjab which added another feather in his cap because of his educational background.
