Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh is a police officer of 1998 batch of the premier Indian Police service (IPS). He is an M.A. in Sanskrit with specialization in Philosophy and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. He has recently completed his Ph.D. on Human Rights of Prisoners from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.

Before he took over the coveted position of SSP Amritsar, he has served as A.S.P. of Amritsar, Ferozepur, Patiala and Ludhiana Districts of Punjab. He was subsequently promoted as S.P. and has performed duties as SP City Amritsar, SP Mohali, SSP Ferozepur, SSP Gurdsapur and SSP Batala. He has also commanded three Armed Battalions of Punjab Police – PAP 7th Battalion Jalandhar, 3rd India Reserve Battalion Ludhiana and PAP 82nd Battalion Chandigarh.  He has also worked as DIG Prisons of Amritsar Central Jail.

He has participated in several professional workshops and seminars at National Police Academy Hyderabad, CBI Academy Ghaziabad, Uttarakhand Academy of Administration Nainital and Direct Taxes Academy Nagpur from time to time which equipped him with capabilities to investigate Cyber Crimes, Money Laundering cases, Disproportionate Assets besides specialization in Disaster Management.

His professional interests include Community Oriented Policing, Preventive and Pro-active Policing and Prison Reforms. For his professional excellence he has been honored by various organizations. Important among these are Baba Farid Award for Honesty (2004) by Baba Farid Foundation Faridkot, IVF Award (2006) for prison reforms by the India Vision Foundation New Delhi and International Human Rights Award (2007, 2008 and 2009) by All India Human Rights Association New Delhi. As a karmyogi his hobbies include Yoga and folk music.
